Leopold And Lisa Loeb

I loved "Stay" when I first heard it. And I still loved it after it became a smash. As a matter of fact, I loved Lisa Loeb for a few albums. She wasn't, I felt, a one hit wonder. "Firecracker" is a record filled with great music; great melodies, hooks, harmonies. You know, the stuff you need and don't always get from your favorite artists. But Lisa Loeb delivered. Maybe...MAYBE...her lyrics were a tad too self-assertive, or maybe even a bit smug for pop music. But they weren't unrelatable. They just tried a bit too hard to be Joni Mitchell. In many ways, Lisa hit that pop music pulse that Joni didn't always nail. It's apples and oranges, I know. But If I had to sell a hit single to a scummy suit, I'd find more hit singles on Lisa Loeb records than on Joni records.

Lisa Loeb should have had a bigger and better career. I'm sure she's doing better than I am. But as a lover of all things music, I think Lisa Loeb deserves more from the "cognescenti."

I think I'll make this anonymous since it will be shallow and misogynistic.
But... it's the glasses. She chooses to look like a 1950's housewife/secretary and that makes her music sound about as exciting. To my ears anyway.
Unfair? Perhaps. But pop/Rock has always been as much about attitude/appearance as much as music, and Lisa just doesn't bring it.

Kudos to your headline on this one, Sal. Chef’s kiss.

While Ms. Loeb doesn't really grab me, I can heartily endorse your referencing a century-old 'crime of the century' for your headline.

"Stay" is great -- but "I Do" is better. The only Lisa in my collection is her "Best Of" and it's very solid throughout.

Dear lord, the headline had me laughing. My good friend Noam is a big fan of hers and I get it. She is a solid act, though I had no knowledge of her extensive sideline in kid's music. Love the glasses, but then, I've always had a thing for librarians. When they take those glasses off...!

I recall Lisa's episode on Daryl Hall's "Live From Daryl's House" -- good music and good hint to the person. Thanks for the reminder Sal!

I agree with Shriner about "I Do," and also find her glasses to be an attribute. She's appealing, and her songs are great. I seem to remember her having good cameos on Community and John Oliver's show

I fall in the fan category. Her version of Rich Girl sealed the deal for me.
